PRAYER FOR
CALMNESS OVER ANGER & RAGE
So then, my
beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath,
for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:19-20)
Almighty Father, I come before You
in this time of great need, for only You can bring the raging fire within me
under control. Because I belong to
You, I want to be wholly Yours. Please
forgive me for giving the devil a foothold – a dwelling place – in my life
(Eph 4:27). Satan, consider this an
eviction notice; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I rebuke you.
I renounce all rights I have given you through my anger.
With the precious blood of Jesus Christ I have been purchased and I
belong to Him.
Dear Jesus, my anger and rage do
not produce Your righteousness. Pour
Your living water on the fire of my smoldering anger. Quench it completely and fill me with Your love and
compassion. Remove the desire for
revenge, whether in word or action, because vengeance belongs to You, not me.
Since You alone are my judge and advocate, I trust You to come to my
defense. I will not be overcome by
evil, but I will overcome evil with good.
My heart’s desire is to learn how
to be angry and yet not sin. Take
control of my actions so I can be “swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to
wrath” (James 1:19). Give me soft
answers that will turn away hostility rather than attract it.
Free me from justifying my fleshly anger under the appearance of
righteous indignation,” and give me the insight to discern the difference
between the two.
Heavenly Father, by nature I was a child of wrath; I deserved the full extent of Your judgment. But despite my fatal shortcomings, You forgave me; You raised me up and seated me in the heavenly places so that in the ages to come You might You might show the exceeding riches of Your grace in Your kindness toward me in Christ Jesus. Thank You for showering me with Your grace and mercy. May I respond in kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness the way You have shown me. (Eph. 4:31-32)
